This is a companion piece to a painting I made (also here on Minted) called Road Trip 1. I love long road trips, especially since I don't usually drive but get to spend the miles staring out the window and watching the beautiful and changeable world fly by. I often snap pictures of the landscape, and when I get home and back into my studio I sift through the pictures to try and filter and process all of that beauty with my oil paints. This particular picture references a beautiful stretch of land between California and Oregon.

    about the artist

    byLynne Millar

    Tracy, CA

Putting a brush to a canvas slows time down for me so I notice subtleties - texture on a petal, a swipe of ripening pigment on a pear, light filtering through a child's skirt - in ways that I entirely miss when I'm running around doing my normal busy routine. Painting is how I pay attention to and process the beauty and complexity of the world (and people) around me.
