Frequently asked questions

How far in advance should I send my save the dates?

  • 7-9 months out for domestic weddings
  • 9-12 months out for destination weddings

Our ultimate planning guide (free to download!) will guide you through your entire planning journey.

Where should I add my wedding website URL?

Most couples add it to the back of their save the dates.

Our recommendations:

  1. Upgrade to a vanity URL for $15 so you can create a shorter URL that’s easier for guests to remember
  2. Create a custom QR code for guests to access your wedding website
    • If Minted is your website host, you can do this during the customization process.
    • If you’re not using a Minted wedding website, simply click the “add new” plus sign button when customizing your save the date, then click QR code.

What is the difference between save the dates and invitations? Do I need both?

Save the dates and wedding invitations serve distinct, but complementary, purposes. Sending both ensures guests have the early notice required for travel and planning, as well as the specific information needed for your event.

Save the dates are sent earlier and get your date on guests’ calendars.

Invitations are sent much closer to the wedding and include all of the information guests need—venue, start time, rehearsal dinner, farewell brunch, etc.

What information do I need to include on my save the dates?

We have a full guide on save the date wording.

You should include: your names, wedding date, wedding location (don’t need venue, just city and state), wedding website, and a note to the effect of “invitation to follow.”

Many couples also include engagement photos.

How do I know which type of save the date is best for me?

We have many options to choose from. Start by deciding if you want a photo or non-photo design.

From there, you can choose a format. We have:

  • Postcard: Measures 6” x 4.25” and requires less postage. No envelope needed!
  • Petite: A chic & wallet-friendly format that measures 4.25” x 6”
  • Classic: Our signature format measures 5” x 7”
  • Grand: Our largest format measures 6” x 8,” providing more space for text and photos
  • Folded: Great for handwritten notes
  • Magnet: An easy format for guests to display
  • Tall: A more editorial format that showcases multiple photos

From there, you can decide if you want to layer in a shape, such as waved frame, rounded corners, or oval.

Still struggling to make decisions? We get it! We recommend taking our style quiz to help you identify your aesthetic. You can also book a free appointment with a concierge to get 1:1 help from a real person on our team.

Can I order a sample of my final design?

To save you time, most of our stationery orders include digital proofing. To receive physical samples, you can either request a free wedding sample kit or order free individual samples of most designs. Not all items are available as samples, and samples cannot be personalized, excluding our limited selection of free personalized save the date samples.

I want to take advantage of your free recipient addressing service. What are my next steps?

There are a few ways to upload your addresses:

  • Use your Minted address book
  • Upload a spreadsheet (.csv, .xls, .xlsx files only)
  • Add recipients manually

I don’t know which save the date aesthetic I’m going for. How do I narrow my search?

We have several filters to help you find the style you’re looking for. Select “refine” while shopping save the dates to filter by number of photos, format, print type, and more. Not all filters are available on every page, but you will always have a range to choose from.

Do you offer digital save the dates?

While we don't currently offer digital save the dates, you're welcome to explore our range of free, ready-to-customize online invitations.

Can I customize my save the date color theme to match my wedding color palette?

Yes! For all orders that are eligible for design requests and digital proofs, you will see the option to add custom colors when personalizing.

How much postage is required to send my save the dates?

Minted standard cards, without any enclosure cards included, generally weigh less than an ounce and require only a one-ounce stamp. The best way to confirm the postage required for mailing is to take a single card, including any enclosure cards, to your local post office. More information here.

Will my save the dates ship directly to my recipients?

Typically all wedding stationery will be shipped to you; however, you can opt in to our free recipient addressing service so that all your envelopes will arrive pre-addressed and ready for you to assemble, stamp, and mail out. No handwriting needed! Unsure of how this works? Connect with a wedding concierge here.

Which paper should I choose?

How can I add an illustration to my save the dates?

There are two ways:

  1. Upload your own illustration through our online customizer by clicking the plus sign labeled “add new,” then “illustration.”
  2. Commission one from an artist in our community. Browse our made-to-order crests & illustrations, then submit a personalization request with your order to receive a custom sketch or an illustration of your venue.
