This piece was inspired by a recent trip to Iceland. The colors in these works feature the amazing shades of blue, black lava, whites, greens, and golds present in the landscape. The iridescent material is representative of the changing magic colors of the Northern Lights. The original piece is mixed media. Materials include, acrylic, oil, canvas, silk organza, silver leaf, gold leaf, iridescent paper. I am particularly excited to explore the prismatic dynacism of the iridescent medium as it portrays lustrous, rainbow-like colors. The purpose of this piece, Lighten Up, was to push myself to have more fun with my works. To push outside the boundaries of what is "acceptable" and choose fun, light, and peace.

    about the artist

    byChristine Olmstead

    Vienna

Christine’s works are abstract, mixed media paintings. Her work focuses on movement, mood, and the use of color, metallic, and reflective elements to convey energy and story. It is through a deeply meditative practice, combined with music that she exercises her synesthesia and painting practice.
