About the work

The wood for a bonfire waits to be lit. It will burn for many hours, and, when it has been reduced to coal, we will walk across the embers as an act of faith as part of the traditional festival of St. John. And then we will dance in triple time until dawn, celebrating the purification undergone.

    Alaine is a Texan transplanted to São Paulo, Brazil, where she admires the graffiti and tropical trees. She has studied drawing, painting, and printmaking at Sarah Lawrence College, the New York Studio School, the Andreeva Portrait Academy (Santa Fe, NM), and the SESC Pompeia (São Paulo). She also holds a master’s degree in Forest Science.
