I am endlessly fascinated by the way that flowers, in different combinations with each other, are metaphors for the richness of life's experience. Flowers go through stages - new buds, in full flourish, delicately losing pigment as petals dry up and fall off of stems - and there is harmony and beauty to be found in how all of those things happen at once, and together, within an arrangement.

    about the artist

    byLynne Millar

    Tracy, CA

Putting a brush to a canvas slows time down for me so I notice subtleties - texture on a petal, a swipe of ripening pigment on a pear, light filtering through a child's skirt - in ways that I entirely miss when I'm running around doing my normal busy routine. Painting is how I pay attention to and process the beauty and complexity of the world (and people) around me.
