About the work
This piece is inspired by my love of animals, the sea, and animal mothers and babies. I wanted to capture the tranquility of baby and mother manatees in calm waters, inspired by footage I've seen of these gentle animals in their river and coastal habitats.

I'm a surface pattern and textile designer and I love to use nature themes in my designs. I love animals and gardening and taking walks in parks--a sketchbook is always at hand--so those themes appear frequently in my work. I'm thrilled that we have monarch butterflies in our backyard after we planted milkweed.
