This abstract acrylic painting takes a modern spin on landscape art. This cool tone seascape was inspired by an evening walk along the coast of Santa Cruz looking for whales in the Monterey Bay. The misty white spouts kept popping up all along the coast.

Caryn Owen created abstract paintings while simultaneously balancing motherhood and a career as a marine biology professor for years. In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art. Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.
