About the work
"Winter Kayak" is part of a personal series exploring our local river Lahn (a tributary of the Rhine, Germany) with photography and painting. This photo was shot after a day and a night of dense fog on New Year's Eve. When the valley appeared again out of the big nothing, it had wrapped itself into a festive cloth of glittering frost … Inspired by this celebration of nature I took many photos but I feel that this one is special as the lonely kayaker makes the landscape look even more peaceful and majestic.

Which then led to surface design, and then illustration. And it set my life on a different path … nowadays I work from my small but cozy home studio in the beautiful Lahn River Valley. I love to sketch and paint outdoors and I call our rooftop garden and the valley itself my second and third workplace.
