Meanderings 10 is a photographic still life created with interwoven mulberry painted paper strips. It is a quiet, simple and spontaneous celebration of paper, color and light. They are my attempt to paint with paper and to demonstrate its capacity to be both fragile and solid. I’m intrigued by how the paper catches and reflects natural light. The diptych format creates a pause in the flow like taking a breath and adds a bit of tension between the two disparate halves that come together to make up a unified whole.

    about the artist

    byJenny Phillips

    San Francisco, CA

Drawn to quietness, subtlety and understatement, I strive to evoke the mood, luminosity and texture of space, light and organic form. My work is about feeling, rather than ideology or narrative. I primarily use paper, wax, watercolor, India ink and acrylic washes, borrowing techniques from printmaking (dry point, chine collé) and combining materials in new and unexpected ways. I seek to balance simplicity of expression with rich sensory qualities.
