About the work
Strata is part of a series of bedrock paintings. I began painting these layered landscapes, snapshots of the revealed bedrock along the highways, in the spring of 2020. The world seemed to be crumbling, and I longed for the solid ground represented by the strata of the tenacious bedrock. The bedrock series appears as traditional landscapes, but in reality they are a peak at what lies beneath the surface of the landscape.
