I grew up with the chaparral as my backyard. To many this environment is harsh and rough, with its brittle bushes and ragged trees. Amongst this hostility lies a beauty, though. Delicate leaves and tiny little flowers bloom from weathered stems. I love to reveal this unexpected beauty by using a macro lens. It allows me to get up close and personal to appreciate the detail and depth that is overlooked by most. This Wild Sage in Black & White is one of my favorites in a series of images I photographed last summer during my brisk morning walks with my two dogs. I hope the viewer enjoys the elegant treatment of its wild beauty.

I love taking pictures. Photography has always been the way I explore the world. Whether it is a connection between people, a dance between light and water, or the grandeur of a sprawling landscape, I'm always looking for beautiful stories to tell. For me the fun is in letting life unfold and freezing its happy accidents and beautiful bits in time.
