About the work
In this mixed-media artwork, I have created a painterly rendition of the state of South Carolina that is inspired by the state's designated symbols. Here, subtly textured brushstrokes of paint in light tints of orange combine to represent the state fruit, the peach. Flowing in to meet the state are the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, rendered in washes of deep indigo, to symbolize the blue of the state flag. Completing the piece is a ground layered in tonal shades of amethyst, the state gemstone.
