Each year when spring arrives, I’m amazed at what pops up out of the earth, hidden all winter, waiting. This mixed media piece represents what I imagine is hiding beneath the surface: all the seeds of the previous summer waiting to push out into the spring sunlight. This piece was created with painted paper collage and acrylic ink on canvas. It's what I imagine is waiting just below the surface of the earth to push forth as spring arrives. The colors of spring in my mind are translated onto into the abstract shapes of seeds, each unique, yet when put together, create a garden.
This Art Print is part of a pair - consider pairing it with Spring Thaw II.

    about the artist

    byKayla King

    Arroyo Grande

Kayla King is an abstract painter living and working in California. With the mountains and sea both at her doorstep, her work is largely influenced by motion: physical landscape, energy, and sound all playing a large role in what is eventually translated to the finished piece. Stories are told in overlapping layers and marks, creating a visual language that seeks to express a moment or memory suspended in time.
