Dress up a simple wood tray with your favorite swatch of fabric.
Sometimes, we fall in love with a certain patterned fabric and want to use it for absolutely everything. The crafting possibilities are endless with this pretty floral printāpillows, pouches, totes, trays⦠First up for us is this super simple fabric-lined wood tray. Your fave fabric, scissors, and Mod Podge are all you need to dress up a plain wood tray and make it unique. Itās perfect to use this summer for backyard picnics and barbecues, or as a coffee-table accent for books and a vase of flowers.
Measure the inside of the tray; mark your measurements on the backside of your fabric and cut to size using scissors or a rotary cutter. Be sure to check the accuracy of your cut by placing the fabric in the tray before applying glue. Trim if necessary.
Apply a layer of Mod Podge to the bottom of the tray with a brush.
Carefully affix fabric, starting in one corner and slowly working outwards. Use the flat edge of a bone folder or a credit card to press out any air bubbles.
Use the pointed end of a bone folder to move the fabric to the corners. If you have excess fabric on edges you can trim using a sharp X-acto knife tool (once dry).
Once the glue is dry, apply a top coat of Mod Podge; let dry. If you want, add a few coats of dishwasher-safe Mod Podge to help seal the tray (however, I would not recommend putting this tray in the dishwasher)! I applied the top coat to all sides of the tray.
Enjoy your pretty new tray this summer!
