I was born on an island with a pencil in my hand and have been drawing ever since. I think that laid back island attitude has always been reflected in my work... from calligraphy and pen and ink, to book illustrations and graphic design.

Wendy, You have really great designs in this challenge and I think the winter evening is my favorite and second to that are the pink florals on red ribbon christmas. I think if you just tweak the writing on red ribbon christmas (where it says christmas party, the font seems a little to childlike for your elegant florals) then you have a definite winner! Just my two cents. Awesome work!

Hi Wendy, hey, you are very welcome! I just hope it's a give and take thing and not considered one-sided! I am often better at seeing what can be tweaked in other's designs and blind on my own, so feel free to chime in! And if we can all avoid those hurtful 1's, then why not, right?! So glad to have "met" you and all the supportive designers here at Minted. Keep up the good work. BTW, I meant behind the whole thing and keep the letters orange and white like my favorite ice cream!

Hi Wendy, thanks for your nice note! Typography is something very near and dear to my heart! To stay on top of new trends, I usually comb magazines [I have a huge scrap file], blogs, websites and see what hot in the marketplace. With minted, you have to stick to certain fonts, but you can pair them in unusual ways. Keep in mind line weights, focal point, sizes. Everything has to work together [type and graphics] in harmony and tone, and too much of a good thing can kill a design. Still thinking about some ideas for the challenge, but nothing has come to me yet...

hi wendy, great changes with the lighter background, and i think the font reads cleaner/bolder. i'd still maybe play around more with the typesetting – something simple like "merry christmas" on one line instead of two, with "from the burbs" centered below might work (or maybe even consider if you need "from the 'burbs"?) --- these are all just suggestions to be taken with a grain of salt -- in the end, go with your gut and what you love!

Wendy - I think you are trying too hard. I did, also, when I started out here. I think "Spirit of the Season" is one of your stronger designs because of its simplicity. I think simple does well here. You don't necessarily have to work hard to get a win. Hope this is helpful...Good luck!!!

Thanks for your note, Wendy! Regarding the Leaderboard - definitely don't get your hopes up for anything on there, but I do think your design gets good publicity out of it. It would definitely be more fun if it was accurate! :)

I know what you mean, Wendy - I am constantly thinking and brainstorming, trying to come up with something, too...but, you are right, sometimes simple is best. My wins are, mostly, my simplest designs that required the least amount of effort. More effort doesn't always equal better. I hope you get a win soon - I'm rooting for your Sittin' in a Tree design. hey, Wendy - thought I'd share my inspiration for Merrily Merrily...I was trying to think of design ideas while my little one was watching Dora the Explorer, and Dora started singing Row Row Row your Boat. I've never thought of Christmas while hearing that sone, but when your in Christmas mode, you here new things, I guess. So, there you go - watch some Dora and maybe you'll have an epiphany, too! :)
