Lighting the first candle gives thanks for those who have come before us and are no longer with us. Giving thanks for the gifts their presence in our lives had on us whether they were family, friends, or coworkers. Lighting the second candle gives thanks for those who are present in our lives, whether they are gathered with us or elsewhere. We thank them for their love and support in helping us to be all we can be. Also giving thanks for everything else in our lives that has brought us to this moment in time. Lighting the third candle gives thanks for those who are yet to come into our lives, those who we have not yet met. We also honor our commitment with one another to building the future together.
