Watching your loved ones light up as they open their gifts easily makes all the seasonal preparation worth it. From the family coming to town, to the smell of warm holiday cookies baking in the oven, these moments together become the memories your family will warmly look back on for years to come. You may have already received all your gifts, but it is far from too late to spread holiday cheer. Sending a sincere thank you to those who took the time to gift you (and your family) a special something is the perfect way to end the ‘most wonderful time of the year.’
Writing a thank you note may only take a few moments, but showering your loved ones with appreciation is so meaningful. It can be difficult to find just the right thank you card wording to show your thanks so we put together the perfect guide to help you show your gratitude this holiday season.
HOW TO WRITE A CHRISTMAS THANK YOU NOTE:
Send in a Timely Manner: Try to send your thank yous as soon as possible (within two weeks to a month). If this is not possible, start with a brief note acknowledging the lateness: “I know this is a bit belated but I wanted to thank you…”
Start with a real paper thank you card – Email thank you messages are great and have their place in the world. But, when it comes to showing appreciation for the thought and effort your loved ones put in this holiday season, it is nice to go the extra mile by sending a real, hand written, paper thank you note.
Express Your Gratitude – After addressing the gift giver by name, always begin with some form of the words “thank you.” Some good examples are: “I am so grateful for..,” “thank you for your thoughtful gift,” “Your presence at ____ made my day.”
Include Details – The easiest way to convey your gratitude is to be specific about what you are grateful for. If you are thanking someone for attending your holiday party tell them what their presence meant to you. If you are expressing thanks for a gift, share how you’ve used it and what you enjoy about it. Even if the gift was simply cash, share what you plan to put it towards and how it will be used.
Add a Personal Message – Make sure to let your thank you recipient know you’re thinking of them. If you are going to be seeing them soon mention that you look forward to talking to them then. “I look forward to seeing you next month at ____,”
Say Thanks Again – Make sure to restate how appreciative you are: “I just want to say thank you again for ______,” “It was really wonderful that you made it out to ____. “
Sign Off – “Sincerely” is a safe go to, but for closer friends and family it may be nice to use a more intimate closer: “yours truly,” “many thanks,” “with love,”
Smile – You’re well on your way to getting through the busiest time of the holidays and this note will make someone’s day!
