Sue’s work seeks the story within and she was intrigued to find that the humble violet posey worn as brooches were powerful symbols of solidarity of the suffragette movement in the UK in 1908.
The colors - purple, white, and green - were chosen to convey the values of the suffrage campaign.
Purple - dignity, for the strength and honor of the women fighting for their rights.
White - purity, for the virtuous cause they championed.
Green - hope, a hopeful vision for a more equal future.
Sashes, ribbons, and other accessories were worn by suffragettes and supporters of the cause.
