As I was walking along the footpath by Cherry Creek near downtown Denver, I was struck by how bright the sunlit sky was and, by stark contrast, how pitch black the shadows under the train bridges were. This contrast felt very graphic and powerful, and I wanted to capture it in a painting, distilling all other colors into a purply-blue, letting light and shadow command your attention. For Bill.
