This artwork was inspired by a painting by Matisse called "The Dessert: Harmony in Red (The Red Room)" I wanted to create a painting with an African twist and added details that are typically South African - like the Lion box of matches, Ouma rusks, and guavas instead of lemons. I used typical African patterns on the fabric as well as local flowers in a pattern on the wallpaper. I placed a protea flower in a vase on the table, and the view outside the window is our well known Table Mountain.
