In this mixed-media artwork, I’ve created a painterly rendition of Kentucky inspired by the state’s nature-derived symbols. Here, impasto applications of paint assemble in swirling layers, a nod to the striated layers of Kentucky agate, the state rock. Completing the piece is a ground rendered in tints of green with hints of yellow, a subtle reference to the green leaves and yellow flowers of the tulip poplar, the state tree.
