The stamp was part of the Summer Garden Flowers booklet, a five-stamp seasonal set created to offer bright, appealing floral designs for everyday first-class mail. The Marigold stamp fulfilled the then-current 29-cent first-class postage rate and was issued on April 28, 1994, in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the Greater Cincinnati, Ohio, Flower and Garden Show.

First issued on April 28, 1994, in Cincinnati, Ohio, the Summer Garden Flowers set featured lily, zinnia, gladiolus, marigold, and rose designs arranged as a connected bouquet. The artwork was designed by artist Ned Seidler, who also created the 1993 garden flower stamps, and the stamps were printed by the Bureau of Engraving and Printing using lithographed and engraved methods.

GUMMED STAMPS: These postage stamps have a traditional moisture-activated gum on the back. These stamps require licking or wetting to adhere to envelopes or other surfaces. To ensure good adhesion, apply vintage gummed stamps to your mailings with a glue stick (we recommend using Elmer's "Re-Stick" glue sticks).
