STAMP DESCRIPTION & HISTORY: The 1996 32-cent Anemone stamp features lavender, white, pink, and red anemone flowers with green foliage and garden soil along the bottom of the design, giving the artwork the appearance of winter flowers planted in a garden bed. The stamp was issued as part of the Winter Garden Flowers booklet, the final booklet in the USPS Garden Flowers series. The set included five flower designs: anemone, crocus, pansy, snowdrop, and winter aconite. The stamps were designed as a continuous se-tenant garden scene, allowing the flowers to appear together as part of one winter garden composition.

The Winter Garden Flowers booklet, including the Anemone stamp, was issued on January 19, 1996, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. The stamps were dedicated at Longwood Gardens. The winter booklet was designed by Ned Seidler, who created a single watercolor garden scene used for the five-stamp set.
