I've always found inspiration in the decorative arts, specifically floral patterns with stylized natural forms. Either, I re-interpret elements from patterns or use them directly in my pieces through collage (found paper). This series in particular references pre-made color swatches from paint stores (specifically named after Annie Sloan's chalk paint "Cream") which is the main color for this series (1 of 3 pieces). The square format also references patterns, quilt-making for example and wallpaper. But it is more exciting to me to paint asymmetrically within the square framework which plays off the original square shape, which is very equilateral and stable. I also experiment with different media in this series, acrylics, chalk paint, found paper, pastel, and ink.
