On an unseasonably warm March morning, I set out to capture swans in flight. My destination was an estuary in Northern Wisconsin alongside the Great Lake Superior. I heard the birds before I saw them. I scanned the skies and located a family of migrating swans, and as they approached they shifted their direction north, catching the light of the rising sun as they glided down to open waters.
