I love painting big skies and clouds. So it's no wonder we love going to the island of Nantucket to see the beautiful skies. A few summers ago we stayed at Madaket and the weather changed abruptly. Nantucket is often referred to as "The Gray Lady of the Sea" because of the fog that rolls in quickly. This painting is what I would imagine that feels like. Hence, "the Gray Lady"
