This is the third quilt in my speakers’ series. As I was designing and making this quilt, I was thinking about Mahsa Amini, her tragic death, and the uprising in Iran. Witnessing the level of control so many states continue to exert over women is overwhelming. And yet, in the face of such brutality, the Iranian people took to the streets, day after day after day, courageously demanding their freedom — using their voices as powerful forces of change. I am in awe of their resiliency. For all these reasons, I’m calling this quilt, “Speak truth to power.”
