I created this photograph using a wet cyanotype process. I enjoy the work of the Japanese artist Hokusai-his work informed this diptych. I used peony leaves from my garden and natural dyes along with the cyanotype, directing the fluid to create movement in the composition. After processing the work in the sunlight, I photographed it using selective focus to give it a dreamy underwater ambiance. The title, What Lies Beneath lI, is an allegory about the work, as everything and everyone carries deeply held secrets within their beings. The print pairs beautifully with What Lies Beneath l, but it is equally compelling displayed as a single artwork.
