About the work
I recently spent some time with a classically trained artist who taught me some techniques used in the impressionist style of painting. This painting was the first of several I did under her tutelage where I practiced impressionism hence its name. Impressionism is a departure from the comfort of realism in which I tend to work, but practicing impressionist techniques helps me to create more realistic paintings.

A gallery owner once told me, "Paint what you love and not what you think people will buy and they will be drawn to your work." Since then I have tried to follow his advice. At the same time I realized that what attracts me to other artists' work is the love and care that I see in it. I live and paint in Pfafftown, North Carolina and in Windsor, California spending about half the year in each. I do portraiture, pen and ink, but mostly oil on canvas.
