This painting comes from an afternoon in the Alps between the Italian and Swiss borders. I was studying masonry, and went to a rural slope where a man made lime in a mountainside kiln. It was a drowsy afternoon, and a friend curled up on this rock to nap after lunch. It has always lived in my memory as a fairytale setting, ripe for dreaming.
