About the work

This abstract acrylic painting takes a modern spin on landscape art. This abstract seascape was inspired by low tide at our local secret beach in Northern California. The soft pastel palette was inspired by the misty foggy mornings along the Santa Cruz coast in the summer months.

    Caryn Owen created abstract paintings while simultaneously balancing motherhood and a career as a marine biology professor for years. In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art. Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.
