A hike through Malibu on a cloudy day provided the inspiration for this painting. The original work used gouache on watercolor paper, one of my favorite mediums. Since the sun is nearly always shining in Southern California, cloudy days feel particularly dramatic here. I hoped to capture some of this moodiness in this work.
