In this illustration, I wanted to create a magical scene where legend meets reality. Here, a flying unicorn (AKA alicorn, pegacorn, flying pegasus) has an encounter with a narwhal, over a rainbow. Stars drift between their horns as if they are enjoying a mystical connection. I intentionally chose these two creatures since narwhals inspired the myth of the unicorn, and narwhal tusks were commonly believed to be unicorn horns in the Middle Ages. My goal was to combine them with elements in the natural world (rainbows and stars) that have filled children and adults with wonder and delight throughout the ages, for maximum magical impact. This illustration can be displayed alone or along with my "starry unicorn highway" print, also found in my shop.
