I had the pleasure of living in Florence,Italy for one month where I studied abroad and took a painting class at the Florence University of the Arts. I was inspired to paint this piece by the Italian countryside of Tuscany. I wanted to capture the colors of the Italian countryside in this painting. I chose to frame the beautiful green rolling hills and the endless blue sky with an arched Renaissance style stone window that is prevalent throughout Italy. The cool grey tones of the stone window focus the viewer's line of vision out into the countryside. With this piece I wanted to emote a feeling of compression and release. The viewer is meant to feel compressed and as if they are inside a space looking out into a space of release, adventure, and possibilities. This print is hopeful in the way that it inspires adventuring and looking out into a world of possibility. I used pen and watercolor to create this print. I used a mainly cool color palette with the grays, greens, and blues. I used a small amount of a warm tan color to show how the light entered into the window.
