I've seen so many different minimalist pieces online lately. I never quite got into it or understood why things like that are made, until I asked myself "is there a thought attached to the shapes?" Little half moon shapes (or orange slice shapes) are very popular right now, in jewelry, in illustration, in design... But what do they mean? Do they even mean anything? I decided to come up with my own shapes that were representative of childhood memories. Each shape is a memory and a feeling... Mom's hug, orange glow of afternoon sun beaming through the window, or a building I used to hide behind with friends. A map of my childhood. I talk about post Soviet Ukraine and how mid century left over furniture in public spaces embellishes most of my memories from being a kid. That was my first time being fascinated by the aesthetic and having no idea why. I use the colors most prevalent to those years and to the things I saw.
