Inspired by the Nouveau Boheme garden series, Japanese Garden IV is an addition to the original series that takes a traditional subject and medium and expresses it with a rather gestural, abstract and modern approach - Upon the inception of this group, I remember Having coveted the Sumi brushes at the art store, but I was on a budget - and ended up just purchasing the acrylics that had needed. The very same evening, I was experimenting with technique, and ended up holding my acrylic brush, the way I would have used the Sumi, and the series was born! Rendered in deeply pigmented and muted hues of Hydrus watercolor.
