Ballet dancers and their pointe shoes have always been a fascination of mine. The dancer in this photo had spent countless hours wearing these shoes in classes and performances until they were so tattered and torn. I loved the juxtaposition of the delicateness of the ballet shoes against the dirty, old railroad tracks and the embodiment of the hard work the shoes had endured.
