About the work

This watercolor began as an abstract exploration of color, texture and transparency. As the painting progressed it reminded me more and more of a visual memory of a transatlantic trip I had taken on an ocean liner as a small child. The magnificent and expansive view of sea and sky from the ship's porthole was captured in this abstract combination of brushstrokes. The beauty and magic in many abstract paintings lies in how each person interprets an image based on their own experiences. The simplicity of this painting pairs well with many styles of art.
