About the work
This abstract acrylic painting takes a modern spin on landscape art. The painting was inspired by snorkel trip around a sunken tugboat off of the coast of Curacao. The swell was rough but the bright coral seemed so peaceful beneath the waves.

Caryn Owen created abstract paintings while simultaneously balancing motherhood and a career as a marine biology professor for years. In 2014, she left marine biology behind to predominately focus on art. Using acrylic paint on canvas, Caryn creates abstract landscapes, abstract botanicals, or pure abstract expressionist paintings focusing primarily on color rather than form in her studio in Santa Cruz, California.
