I saw this rancher on a frigid day in Astana, Kazakhstan. I had been photographing the four horses and camel he was leading back into the stables, and had barely noticed him. At the last moment, I realized what an incredible subject he was, asked if I could take his photo, and snapped a few frames. The old Soviet-era Lada passing by marked the stark contrast between modern and antique in the fascinating country.
