This past summer I had the privilege of traveling to Sydney, Australia. Upon arriving, my friends and I walked along a trail know as the Coogee to Bondi trail. This trail winds along the side of cliffs that overlook the amazing panoramic views of the ocean. After being on a long plane ride, finally feeling the sea breeze, smelling the salty air, and looking as far as I my eye could see out at the endless horizon felt immensely freeing. I painted this print to capture the beauty of the views on this trail and the feeling of freedom. I chose vibrant colors to illicit excitement and wonder about being in a new place with a week of exploring and vacationing ahead. The jagged cliffs and powerful sea contrasts with the soft grasses and calm sky. I used the sky and grass to frame the more kinetic elements of this print in a effort to soften the outer edges. Using watercolors enabled me to further explore this idea of softening the outer edges. I used pen to increase contrast in more detailed areas of the print such as the boats and the rocks. The boats in the print are a few of several boats that had been pulled atop the rocky edge to protect them from the crashing sea. The bright pink of the boats contrasts nicely against the cool blues and greens of the surrounding landscape. This fun print will take you to the coast of Australia and hopefully recreate similar emotions to the ones I felt at Bondi Beach.
