This artwork is an element of an ongoing abstract series inspired by Scotland's dramatic landscape, using color and texture to convey the allure of her rugged coastline. Experimenting with found art materials, I embarked on a journey to emphasize the wild and violent waters around Scotland. A rich background palette of indigo-blue watercolors is layered with hand-painted silk strips which represent the sea. This delicate material vividly illustrates our enigmatic relationship with the oceans, one that can be both peaceful and tumultuous. The image defines my feelings for home and all its wild and rugged splendor. It's only when you are far away that you begin to appreciate the beauty that was always in front of you.
