Portraits are way out of my comfort zone, but that didn't stop me from participating in a "portrait" Instagram art challenge. That’s when this cool lady with dark oversized sunglasses and peppy floral headscarf was born. In homage to Andy Warhol and pop art, I duplicated her. I named this piece “The Ladies, The Ladies” as a nod to the Beastie Boys and my crew of creative girlfriends.

Melanie Biehle is an American artist who paints what places feel like. Her work is inspired by Louisiana landscapes, Pacific Northwest mountains and forests, the coast of California, New York City architecture, and Seattle skylines. Melanie studied abstract painting at Gage Academy of Art. She was born in rural Louisiana and spent most of her adult life on the West Coast.
