It was such fun to paint this cute, happy elephant and to capture all of the detail and texture in his wrinkly skin. This detailed watercolor painting was inspired by a similarly cheerful baby elephant that I saw while on safari in South Africa, following his mama.

    byLauren Rogoff

    New York, NY

I'm Lauren: a NYer, traveler, lover of books, horses, dogs and painting. When I was a little girl, used to tell anyone who asked me what I wanted to do when I grew up that I wanted to be a "veterinarian with pictures all over the walls" but ultimately I'd rather wield a paintbrush than a scalpel! Watercolors are my medium of choice. I think it allows me to best capture the expressions of my subjects, and getting that face, those eyes, or little ears or curl of tail, just right.
