All Minted invitations come with free recipient address printing. A matching wedding website design is also available for you to share your wedding info. While you can easily personalize a design suite online, working with our wedding concierge can save you a lot of time in choosing the format, size, and personalizing your invitation. Now, let's learn the wedding invitation size options at Minted.

1. CLASSIC

Size: 5” x 7”
Available Accessories: Direction Card, RSVP Card, Reception Card, Belly Band
Look and Feel: The “traditional” wedding invitation size is perfect for classic, upscale affairs and available in the widest range of designs, shapes, and styles. Perfect for the luxurious “wow” experience for guests.

2. PETITE

Size: 4.25” x 6”
Available Accessories: Direction Card, RSVP Card, Reception Card, Belly Band
Look and Feel: The slightly less grand version of the classic invitation. Generally great for modern, savvy brides who like the differentiation of a compact invitation but still want some classic elements.

3. ALL-IN-ONE

Size: 5.76” x 12.03”
What it is: These designs already include return address printing, a built-in envelope, and a perforated RSVP postcard that’s addressed and ready for your guests to drop in the mail. Simply fold, seal with 3 clear stickers (included) on the center and both sides of the flap, and send—no external envelope required.
Look and Feel: A modern and unique format that is as convenient as it is interesting. Many brides gravitate to this size and shape when they are looking for something differentiated and budget savvy.

4. SQUARE

Size: 6” x 6”
Available Accessories: Direction Card, RSVP Card, Reception Card, Belly Band
Look and Feel: This is truly a differentiated, new-age look that will stand out in any mailbox. Take note, however, that square formats will require extra postage to send.

5. FOUR-PANEL

Size: 4.25” x 6”
Available Accessories: Direction Card, RSVP Card, Reception Card, Belly Band, to be assembled per the section above
Look and Feel: A more casual format that allows for personal, storytelling touches. This invitation format is the most personal of those available due to its traditional greeting card sizing.

WEDDING INVITATION ENVELOPE SIZES

As you might imagine, the size and shape of your wedding invitation envelope should match the largest element within your invitation bundle. As a rule of thumb, the dimensions of your envelope will increase by ¼ inch for both height and width for the largest part of your invitation bundle. For example, a classic 5” x 7” invitation will come with a 5 ¼” x 7 ¼” envelope. With envelope sizing in particular, you will sometimes hear stationers refer to these by alphanumeric sizing. We’ve included a handy decoder chart below so that you can interpret which wedding invitation envelope size goes with each invitation format.

wedding envelope liner

A matching envelope liner designed by the same artist comes as an add-on to your invitation suite. It is trimmed to match the dimensions of the envelope plus the flap, less a ½” border. While you can opt in for the default envelope liner design within its suite by Minted, you can also browse other liner designs in our Marketplace.

Equally as important as knowing your wedding invitation envelope size, is deciding the fun design elements to appear on your envelope! The envelope is your recipient’s first interaction with your wedding correspondence. Our envelopes are printed in a variety of elegant colors. Free recipient address printing in various different fonts and calligraphic styles are included.

CHOOSING YOUR WEDDING INVITATION SIZE & SHAPE

There are a couple of key factors to think through when determining what size and shape you want for your wedding invitations:

1. Who do you want to feature in the host line? Minted features designs for many different combinations of hosts and greetings on its wedding invitations (whether both sets of parents, one set of parents, or just you and your partner), but the more names you want to feature on an invite, the smaller the font will need to be. This is something to keep in mind if you’re thinking about a petite, square, or all-in-one invitation that has more limited real estate. When customizing Minted's invitations, you can add more text boxes by putting a design request or work with our complimentary wedding concierge.

2. Do you want to include details other than the hosts and attendee information? If you’re excited to share out some of your engagement photos and other details about you and your partner, you may want to opt for a four-panel format, which allows you to add supplementary info in addition to the traditional invitation requirements. If you choose the classic 5"x7" card, you can utilize the back of the card for your photos or any wedding info. Check out our guide on invitation etiquette and wording to learn about details to include, the order to include them, and so much more.

3. What do you want the look and feel to be like for your guests? Your wedding invitation size and shape should feed into your overall design aesthetic. If you’re looking for something more formal or traditional, go with a 5” x 7” classic size so that you can include important accessories like a direction card (to include further details about your wedding location, website, or any other details that don’t fit on the invitation), RSVP card and envelope, and reception card if your reception site is different from the ceremony site. These accessories are typically sized at 4.25” x 5.5” to be nicely folded against the invitation and fastened with a belly band around the center. If you are curious, the traditional order of these cards from top to bottom is direction card, RSVP card (tucked into the envelope with wording side up), reception card, and then a formal invitation. Check out our guide on assembling wedding invitations.

If you want to include any of these inserts, an all-in-one invitation is not going to suit your needs (although it does have a perforated RSVP postcard attached). Likewise, while we offer these accessories with petite and square cards, they are not sized down, so the impact of unveiling the invitation may be a little less grand, but still beautiful! The all-in-one invitations, petite and square options are great for a more modern and laid-back feel and will help set the tone for your guests right away.

4. Do you want your wedding invitation edges to have a fancy shape? Oftentimes, wedding invitations are trimmed to have rounded corners or scalloped edges to play up the dressiness of the affair. If you would like to add this touch to your invitations’ silhouettes, we would encourage you to start with either a classic (5” x 7”) or petite (4.25” x 6”) flat format so the edges can be trimmed down.

5. What is your budget? As you likely guessed, the larger and more complex the size and number of elements in your invitation suite, the more costly it is going to be. Four-panel, petites, and all-in-one invitations are the most affordable formats, minibooks™ are the most expensive format, and classic 5” x 7” invitations are somewhere in the middle. In addition to the size of the invitation itself, you will want to think about the type of paper you are using and the number of elements, as this may require you to buy more postage. For a standard invitation bundle, you should be fine to use a $0.66 Forever stamp, but if you use our Double-thick or Triple-thick paper with multiple inserts or special features like ribbons or wax seals (or if you opt to have white ink addressing on your envelope), you will go above the 1-oz weight limit and will need to purchase $0.90 postage. If you’re worried about weight limits, we recommend chatting with one of our customer service team members before finalizing your purchase.

OTHER WEDDING INVITATION TIPS & TRICKS

In addition to finalizing your wedding invitation sizes, there are a few other considerations that we wanted to make sure you don’t forget as you design your perfect wedding invitation suite. We’ve put together the helpful checklist below to guide you on your journey:

  • Quantity:
    • Have you developed a final list of guests to invite to your wedding? We find most people invite 10-20% more than they initially sent Save The Dates to, depending on level of excitement and pre-acceptances.
    • Are you going to have a secondary or backup list of invitees that you need to order extra invitations for?
    • Have you factored in 5-10 pieces to keep as keepsakes? Your photographer will most likely want to snap some photographs of the invitations as well.
  • Budget:
    • Have you set a budget for your invitations? We find they are often 2-5% of your total wedding budget on average (but if you want to spend more or less, we won’t judge!)
    • Do you know what your ideal cost per invitation is based on your total number of guests?
    • Have you factored in the cost of postage ($0.50-0.70 per invitation)?
  • Timing:
    • Do you have a target date by which to send your invitations? Don’t forget it will take around one week for them to get to your guests.
    • Have you given guests sufficient time to RSVP?
  • Design:
    • Have you landed on a color palette for your wedding? Does your invitation match that color palette or theme? If you have specific colors or Pantones, you can provide them to a Minted design associate and we can match your invitations perfectly for free!
    • Have you decided on the “mood” for the day and how that translates to a font?
    • Do you know who is going to be listed on the host line?
  • Finishing Touches:
    • Do you know how you are going to assemble your invitations or do you need additional components like a belly band, ribbon, or wax seal?
