About Autumn Grass: “By the time autumn arrives, the fields have turned gold and the sunlight casts a warm glow over everything as it sets. Everything is winding down, arriving at its winter resting season. Seeds fall from stalks, creating a blanket of food for native birds across the ground and sowing themselves deeply in preparation for winter rains. This mixed media piece is inspired by the warm glows of autumn and the hoppy little birds outside my windows who are out of their minds for abundance of seeds that are theirs for the taking.”

Kayla King is an abstract painter from the Central Coast of California. She finds inspiration within the natural world, specifically and landscape and in her home garden. Finished works largely influenced by water and earth: the motion, energy, sound, and texture all playing a large role what is translated to the finished piece. Stories are told in overlapping layers and marks, creating an expressive visual language that seeks to suspend a moment or memory in time.
