For this study of one of my favorite flowers I combined more traditional observational painting techniques with the abstract qualities of mark making and vibrant color palettes to create an exciting visual mix. I like to think of my visible brushstrokes as my "thinking lines". Peony season is always a joy and I wanted to capture that feeling in paint.
