The Shape of Memory series is a tribute to textiles and free-form, improvisational quilting, a tradition I’ve always admired. Like a memory quilt, with its unpredictable stacking of shapes, materials, and colors, my pieces reflect on the places I explored as a child, and the people and adventures that populate my past. “Desert Sunrise”, reminds me of the early sun peeking just above the mountain by my childhood house in the mornings. The geometric shapes mimic the bold architectural lines of our old adobe house in the desert. The colors bring me back to the tans of Camelback Mountain, the magenta bougainvillea climbing the white house, the cadmium oranges from our citrus trees and the bright blue sky.
