"Mother Holds" is an abstract botanical that began from an orchid in my home studio. The curvature of the stem and delicate leaves, the architectural beauty in the line of that flower inspired each painted stroke. Shapes began to take form as if loaves of bread were toppling over one another and the piece held more weight. It made me think of the things mothers carry, the never ending balancing act of being both strong and tender.
