Growing up near the beach, my favorite time to be on the shore was at night. This was when the sands were deserted and the crashing of the waves was the only thing you could hear; the sound was peaceful yet foreboding. This painting represents a moment in the middle of a storm. The loud waves shine under a flash of bright light, while the mist recedes into the dark night sky. I wanted to capture the interplay of the gentle mist, the still night sky and wild energy of the waves in this piece.
